5 Ways to Prep Your Kids for Your Trip Away

Let’s start out our time together today with some honesty, shall we?

You need a break.

A much needed 3 or 4 day travel excursion or vacation is something you owe yourself.

But there is just one problem - because you’re an amazing mom, the thought of leaving your kids alone for a couple days brings anxiety and makes you feel guilty.

These feelings are totally normal so it’s okay. What you need is a solid plan and to not talk yourself out of going on your trip because these feelings are so strong.

FIVE PREPARATION TIPS

Traveling without the kids is actually healthy for their development. They need to see you spending time alone and creating boundaries

  1. Write down your list of expectations of your kids while you’re gone & make plans to reward their behavior once you get settled in.

  2. Pick one day after your vacation is over to go back home, but keep them at the sitters. Give yourself time to adjust back to your routine, wash some clothes, and unpack before you dive straight in

  3. Send them a gift while you’re on the trip. Make plans to FedEx a small gift that shows your journey

  4. Make sure that the sitter has emergency contacts, allergy information, their favorite T.V. shows, your expectations of appropriate media, meals, and education time. Don’t allow the sitter to break them from their routine.

FINALLY, RELAX ON YOUR TRIP AND HAVE A GREAT TIME. COME BACK RESTED KNOWING THAT YOUR BEING AT REST IS THE BEST GIFT YOU COULD GIVE YOUR FAMILY.
